How To Install XBMC 13.2 Beta 3 On Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 12.04 And Derivative Systems

Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, XBMC is a famous open source media hub and home theater PC, being translated in more than 30 languages. Also, its features can be highly extended via third party plugins and extensions and has support for PVR (personal video recorder).

Also worth mentioning, starting with XBMC 14, the project will be renamed to Kodi. For more information, see this article.

The latest version available is XBMC 13.2  Beta 3 “Gotham”, which has been recently released, coming only with fixes for other platforms than Linux.

In this article I will show you how to install XBMC 13.2 Beta 3 on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Linux Mint 13 Maya, Pinguy OS 14.04, Pinguy OS 12.04, Elementary OS 0.3 Freya, Elementary OS 0.2 Luna, LXLE 14.04, Linux Lite 2.0, Deepin 2014, Peppermint Five and other Ubuntu derivative systems.

Because it is available via PPA, installing XBMC 13.2 Beta 3 on Ubuntu 14.04, Linux Mint 17, Pinguy OS 14.04, Deepin 2014 and other Ubuntu 14.04 derivative systems is easy. All you have to do is add the ppa to your system, update the local repository index and install the xbmc package. Like this:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc/unstable
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install xbmc

Optional, to remove xbmc, do:

$ sudo apt-get remove xbmc
